Film Noir
A smokey room with plenty of cigarettes, a man dressed in black, and a women in a sexy dress. These three descriptions are sceen in ever single Film Noir movie ever made. Film Noir's hayday began in the early 1940's and stretched until the late 1950's. They all were basically crime dramas with a sexy girl and cynical characters. These films were all shot in black and white at the time with the same low key lighting and overly smokey rooms. Though the most famous of these movies tended to be crime drams which gave that feeling of being the detective Dick Tracy others had more romance, social problems and even gave the point of few of a gangsters life. These movies were honestly the birth of the dramas we see today.

Shane, I think it is cool that evry director stays with the same plot to everyone of their movies. Its what makes them have their idenity. Its ashame there was not better technology around in the past because those old movies probally could of been better with some adavnced technology in them.
ReplyDeleteIt is neat that most of his films like many others in the 40's and 50's were basically the same. All black and white with a beautiful girl and a lot of cigarette smoking. It was kind of real life for back then.
ReplyDeleteWhen I think of Film Noir, I can’t help imagining Frank Sinantra. This is an interesting socio-cultural connection that became possible due to some similarities in Sinatra’s image to “a man dressed in black.” The Blue-eyed idol turned out to be an interesting figure that combined the traits of a criminal mind and a real gentleman. Sinantra is one of the most impressive examples of controversies in culture. So is Film Noir’s heroes!
ReplyDeleteYou see alot of TV series like Flim Noir today. CSI, Law and Order and Harrys Law to name a few. The only difference is that much less smoking but alots of drama like this film.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy films like this. It gives it a certain art to it. It puts me into the tense feeling of being trap with only a couple people there. How does one react to the dark room? I would like like more films today to be more about black and white and lighting. I know some movies do that, but less then what should be.
