fighting off copyright

3D movies have been popular off and on since the 50's, but the first ever was in 1903 called L' arrive du train. 3d movies are the industries attempt to fend off copyright infringement and theft. Through special lenses a the appearance of depth is added to a flat image. one of the greatest 3d experiences anyone could have ever veiwed is no longer in existance, Captain EO's adventure starring Michael Jackson.

  1. I remember Michael Jackson's Captain EO. I had forgotten all about it until a friend posted it on Facebook. I heard that they brought it back in 2010 as a tribute to Michael's death.

  2. I never heard of Captain EO and had to look it up on You Tube. I watched the entire video and found it a little hokey, but did enjoy the music. I asked my daughter if she ever heard of Captain EO (and she is a big fan of MJ) but she did not. Even with the big names of Lucas and Disney I don't think this video was as successful as some of his other videos, but a good attempt at 3D. I can only guess that this was Michael Jackson's attempt to make a bigger and better video than Thriller. Thanks for the post.

  3. Bishopmngr, I found it interesting how 3D movies are an attempt to fend off copyright issues just by putting on the 3D glasses. I never knew this before. I never saw Captain EO, but I have heard about it. It is sad that the movie can not be viewed any longer because of copyright issues. The law was not made to work this way. Very good post. 4. 3D movies are now popular today all because of technology evolving all the time. Movies just got better a couple years ago from sound effects and better graphics but now movies are 3D so things will pop out of a movie while you are watching it. Before we know it something else will come out to make watching movies more interesting.

  5. Over time the 3D movie has become popular, but it sense that of late, the 3D movie has over stayed it welcome. the technology makes 3D movies what they are but it looks like that every movie is going 3D. action movies look great in 3D but other movies like cartoons or slower movies just make no sense in 3D.

  6. I never knew 3D went back that far. I kinda like 3D and then I don't only because it difficult watching when you have glasses. I did see Avatar in 3D with my mom and godfather and it was a great experience. It was my mom's first time watching a 3D movie and she was super excited. She actually kept the glasses for a couple of months.

  7. I absolutely hate 3D movies. I think a movie becomes less entertaining with a movie that is 3d. My eyes hurt after I leave the theater and I get a strenuous headache. I think since the entertainment and television industry have really nothing new to give the public, they made 3D to gain revenue. Just want I think. I also believe they should charge $3-4 extra for tickets. If it was the same amount of many maybe I would see a 3D movie more often. I would rather see a regular movie and enjoy it.

  8. 3D is an interesting topic in films and move even video games. The technology has been around for a very long time but nobody wanted to wear the blue/red glasses. It made the colors so bad, that no amount of 3D made up for it and the viewing experience was very poor. With the new technology, the blue /red glasses are gone, but you still need 3D glasses to view the 3D. This technology won’t fully catch on until no glasses are needed and even then I’m not sure it is needed, and sometimes it cause people health and dizziness issues.

  9. Wow, i would have never known Micheal Jackson had his own 3-d movie. The 3-d movies nowadays are breathtakingly amazing, and the same can be said of the quality of the 3-d tv's picture and production. Of course, there's a higher price tag to attend these 3-d movie events/3-d tv's.

  10. 3D is different today, besides being stuff that pops out at you its now just makes the people 3D. I really like the movies where stuff comes at you and makes u feel apart of the movie

  11. I never saw this movie but 3-D movies are really popular now. I personally don't enjoy 3-D movies because i hate wearing those big glasses. If they come up with movies without the glasses I would go see them. 3-D is not only available for movies but also TVs and now Nintendo DS or what they call Nintendo 3DS. The TVs are not popular because they have to wear glasses. I believe if they made 3-D TV is made without the glasses then i would buy it so would most people.

  12. Wow, I am surprised the first three dimensional film was made in 1903. What a great piece of trivia! Michael Jackson fans must be excited to know there is a seemingly little known about movie starring the King of Pop. Thanks to YouTube, I am sure many will be searching for, and downloading, Captain EO's Adventure.
I wonder if his estate holders will re-release this movie. Thanks to the advanced technology of present day, three dimensional movies are again very popular. I am sure many would like to profit off of this film.

  13. I'm a fan of Michael Jackson and it was interesting to discover that he was in a 3 D movies. I'm not thrilled about 3D movies, but my grandchildren enjoy watching them. I recently took them to see a 3 D movie, and it cost me a lot of money, don't forget the popcorn, candy and drinks.
